Project - New Roof Project York -
This was a large project which involved fitting a complete new roof. The roof was a double roof making the project more complex.
The project was started by getting all measurements correct and gauges in order for battens and tiles to correctly fit on to the roof.
The roof was then felted with a high grade(tivek)breathable membrane felt, making sure all overlaps and folds are done correctly. This ensures no water can enter the roof space.
The battening process is then commenced from top to bottom ensuring all batten are laid the correct distance apart. The battens are nailed to each roof joist, this ensures the batten will be fixed securely and able to take the weight of the tile when laid.
The tiles were then laid from the bottom to the top, each course having a cut at either end to create the hip. This process was performed on all sides of both roofs.
The hip tile was laid up each hip on all sides to cover the hip cuts and seal the hip bringing each side of the roof together . Hips were laid on a 3-1 mix of mortar then pointed each side.
The ridge tile was also fixed onto the roof a with a 3-1 mix of mortar and pointed up.
The roof was then complete.
